Swim Australia™ Teacher

Swim Australia Teacher
Our most popular entry-level course, the Swim Australia™ Teacher (SAT), has the competence and knowledge to teach swimming and water safety to independent learners from ages 2 ½ upward, emphasising safety, fun and skill development.

Upon completing all the course requirements, candidates will be accredited with the Swim Australia™ Teacher license, valid for three years. The course includes vocational education, training requirements, and non-accredited training requirements in line with the Aquatic Industry. This is the industry standard for Teachers of Swimming and Water Safety.

This course is aimed at people entering the aquatics and community recreation industry, wishing to instruct swimming and water safety and the entry point into Sport, Aquatics and Recreation industry.

STUDENT JOURNEY
This interactive course is delivered in a blended format with online theory and practical components.

The practical workshop requires attendance at a face-to-face training session for a full day. Students will also be required to complete supervised industry training in a swim teaching environment in a range of conditions. The course consists of theory, practical and “on-the-job components:

  1. Theory component – topics completed via the SWIM Australia Learning Management System. Candidates will be able to participate in a practical workshop once the following online modules are completed:
    • Preparing to Teach in an Aquatic Environment
    • Teaching in an Aquatic Environment
    • Water Survival and Rescues
  2. Practical component – involves swimming activities that may be carried out in shallow or deep water.
  3. On-the-job training and assessment component – completed in a location/venue of the student’s choice to complete and deliver a number of supervised tasks in line with the skill set.

DELIVERY STRATEGY

  • Online Theory component – approx. 30 hours
  • Face to Face Practical workshop – 8 hours
  • On-the-job training and assessment – 25 hours

ALLOWABLE TIME
Candidates have 12 months to complete their training for all SWIM Australia courses unless otherwise stated.

Students who have successfully completed this course will receive an electronic Swim Australia™ Teacher certificate. All Swim Australia™ Teacher qualifications are valid for 3 years from the date of accreditation.


Swim Australia™ Foundation Coach

Swim Australia Foundation Coach
The Swim Australia™ Foundation Coach (SAFC) (formerly known as Swim Australia Teacher of Competitive Swimming) will be competent to deliver basic swimming squad sessions that develop the swimming technique of novice Swimmers – this is generally defined as Swimmers who are recent “Learn to Swim” Graduates and are in the likes of a “mini squad” (usually around 10-years and under) and still acquiring the skills needed to transition into competition.

This course covers the following topics:

  • Coach Swimmers up to a competitive level
  • Continuously improve coaching skills and knowledge

Students who have successfully completed this course will receive an electronic Swim Australia™ certificate. All Swim Australia™ qualifications are valid for 3 years from the date of accreditation.


Pool Lifeguard

Accident prevention and rescue response are areas in which Australian lifeguards are renowned for their exceptional skills and knowledge, setting a benchmark for others around the world.
Our experienced trainers will move between the theory and practical components of the course, using the latest equipment and a range of realistic and practical scenarios to help you consolidate your learning and ensure you are skilled and confident in applying newly learned strategies and techniques.
STUDENT JOURNEY

  1. Theory component – topics completed via the SWIM Australia Learning Management System. Candidates will be able to participate in a practical workshop once the following online modules are completed.
    • Provide oxygen resuscitation in an aquatic environment
    • Water Survival and Rescues
    • Perform Complex Water Rescues
    • Supervision Patron Safety in Aquatic Locations
  2. Practical component – involves swimming activities that may be carried out in shallow or deep water.

It is expected that participants possess adequate physical fitness and good health to enrol in this course. The course involves the following physical activities: kneeling, bending over, crouching, standing, leaning, sitting, pushing, lifting weights, swimming long distances, towing, diving, carrying, perform CPR for an extended period of time and other forms of physical exertion.

All prospective Pool Lifeguards will be involved in active learning, role plays and troubleshooting activities on the days of their attendance. Communication, conflict resolution skills, incident reporting, and Venue checklists are also done within the theory component.

DELIVERY STRATEGY

  • Online Theory component – 8 hours
  • 2-Day Face to Face Practical workshops – 16 hours

Students who have successfully completed this course will receive an electronic SWIM Coaches and Teachers Pool Lifeguard certificate


Swim Australia™ Teacher of Learners with Disability

SAT LWD
The SAT LWD program offers an incredible opportunity to enhance your Swim Australia™ Teacher certification and develop the skills needed to cater to learners with disabilities. By completing this program, you’ll gain the expertise to recognise the unique requirements of each participant and ensure their safe entry and exit from the water. You’ll also learn how to provide tailored support during aquatic activities based on their individual needs and preferences. This program will complement your existing Swim Australia™ Teacher skills and expand your range of teaching abilities, making you a more engaged and inclusive teacher
To complete this course, participants must hold Swim Australia™ Teacher (SAT).

Swim Australia™ Teacher of Babies & Toddlers

SAT BT
The Swim Australia™ Teacher of Babies & Toddlers (SAT B&T) will give you the competence and knowledge to plan and deliver lessons for infants and toddlers over six months of age and up to four using activities, games and toys to promote personal development and motor and cognitive skills.

To complete this course, participants must hold Swim Australia™ Teacher (SAT).

STUDENT JOURNEY
This interactive course is delivered in a blended format with online theory and practical components.

The practical workshop requires attendance at a face-to-face training session for a full day. Students will also be required to complete supervised industry training in a swim teaching environment in a range of conditions. The course consists of theory, practical and “on-the-job components:

  1. Theory component – topics completed via the SWIM Australia Learning Management System. Candidates will be able to participate in a practical workshop once the following online module is completed.
    • Promote development of infants and toddlers
  2. Practical component – involves swimming activities that may be carried out in shallow or deep water.
  3. On-the-job training and assessment component – completed in a location/venue of the student’s choice to complete and deliver a number of supervised tasks in line with the skill set.

DELIVERY STRATEGY

  • Online Theory component – approx. 5 hours
  • Face to Face Practical workshop – 6 hours
  • On-the-job training – 5 hours
  • Competency Assessment – 1.5 hrs
