Biographical Info

Deaf Children Australia is a not-for-profit organisation delivering a range of resources, programs, and events dedicated to supporting families with deaf and hard-of-hearing children.
Our vision is to create a world where children and young people who are deaf or hard of hearing have every opportunity to reach their full potential.
One of our tentpole programs is Puggles Swim, a comprehensive online course designed to empower swim teachers in embracing the inclusion of deaf and hard-of-hearing children in mainstream swimming lessons.
Since its launch, Puggle’s Swim has achieved remarkable milestones in its first year. With an impressive enrolment of 1,276 swim instructors and accreditation of 775 Skippers, Puggle’s Swim has garnered nationwide recognition. The course aims to upskill swim teachers, equipping them with the necessary knowledge and confidence to include deaf and hard-of-hearing children in LTS lessons. Endorsed by national swim associations, Puggle’s Swim has become a leading program in promoting inclusivity.
The course spans three hours and offers a self-paced learning experience, allowing each instructor to progress at their own speed.

The impact of Puggle’s Swim on swim instructors can be seen through their testimonials:

“I have completed the course and it is great! I am someone who has not learned AUSLAN, and what I am most impressed about is that this course has narrowed down the most useful words and signs that will be needed in a swimming pool.”

“I highly recommend the Puggle’s online course to anyone in the aquatic industry. It’s money well spent, totally tax-deductible, and Austswim will give you PD points!”
