Ian Pope

Ian Pope is a Platinum Licence Australian Olympic swimming coach and highly respected member of the SWIM Coaches & Teachers Association. Across an exceptional coaching career, his athletes have won more than 70 medals at major international competitions and set 11 world records.

Ian represented Australia as a Team Coach at the 2000 Sydney and 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and was selected for the Australian coaching team at six World Championships. He has coached some of Australia’s most celebrated swimmers, including Olympic medallists Grant Hackett, Michael Klim, Giaan Rooney and Matt Welsh.

Recognised for his swimmers outstanding performances at international competitions, Ian was awarded SWIM Australian Coach of the Year in 2004 and has received Victorian Coach of the Year honours on multiple occasions.

Ian served as Head Coach at Melbourne Vicentre Swimming Club for more than 16 years and later as Director of Coaching at Surrey Park Swimming Club. Widely respected for his progressive approach to stroke mechanics and technical development, he regularly shares his expertise at coaching conventions, educational masterclasses and practical stroke-development clinics.
