Synopsis
Reflexes and Our Little Swimmers: When they help and when they hinder
In the early years, reflexes play an important role in how children move, respond and feel in the water. But what happens when those reflexes help a swimmer progress, and when might they begin to hold them back?
In this session, Robyn Satorre will explore the role of reflexes in young swimmers, including how they can influence confidence, body position, movement patterns, breath control and skill development. The session will help swim teachers better understand what they are seeing in the water, why some children may respond differently to instruction, and how to adapt teaching strategies to support each swimmer’s individual development.
Practical, insightful and highly relevant for teachers working with babies, toddlers and early learners, this session will provide a deeper understanding of how reflexes can both support and challenge learning in the pool.
